GSL Savings Bank Celebrates - NATIONAL NIGHT OUT AGAINST CRIME
Guttenberg’s annual celebration of National Night Out was delayed one week due to inclement weather – and boy, was it worth the wait. Held in the GSL Savings Bank parking lot on Tuesday, Aug. 13, it packed the space with carnival midway’s worth of attractions, including games of chance with great prizes, a dunk tank, free hot dogs, popcorn, ice cream, sno-cones, cotton candy, drinks, candy, and water.
Entertaining the crowd was the band Finish This, performing a terrific set of soulful rock and R&B classics that had the crowd dancing, cheering, and singing along all night.
Mayor Wayne Zitt greeted the audience to introduce the show. He was joined by Council Members Richard Delafuente, Monica Fundora, William Hokien, and Juana Malave, along with Town Administrator Cosmo Cirillo and many other town officials and employees.
There was no shortage of free giveaways from the town and participating vendors. The Guttenberg Police Department, PBA Local 88, and Fire Prevention provided hats, coloring books, and other goodies for kids and families.
The evening ended with a raffle of prizes donated by Danny Jiminez, owner of the Guttenberg Trolley, and Events Coordinator Marisol Montanez, who planned and coordinated the event. Five lucky winners took home backpacks full of school supplies or big flat-screen TVs.
Night Out is a national initiative designed to improve relations between the community and the police by bringing them together in a fun and positive environment. This year’s event was a huge success thanks to the efforts of the Guttenberg Police Department with the strong support of the DPW and all other municipal departments.

Attendees received a special treat when a surprise guest performed at the annual senior luau on Friday, Sep. 20, 2024. A costumed belly dancer mesmerized the crowd with performances involving veils, fans, a sword… and less.
Members of the audience cheered enthusiastically and stood up to emulate the dancer in her exotic routines, to the delight of the audience.
The event featured a delicious meal of savory chicken, Arroz con Gandules, pasta salad, beverages, and a huge cake for dessert. Flowered leis were freely distributed and tropical-themed decorations filled the Gerald R. Drasheff Community Center, where the event was held.
